I have to write a report on formatting a disc. I don't have a clue on what that is. Can someone give me some hints?

if you wanna write a report just go to google on get help from that, because you can't get enough informtion that you can make a report, you will only get exact answer not described answer.
well formatting a disc removes all data from that disc, but it not mean that you can't recover that data, now a days many softwares are here to recover data, so formatting a disc gives you full free disc with free space, n it removes virues and all bad information from your disc.

formatting is the way to delete all the files on the drive....
formatting is also used if you were infected with so many virus,spyware and the operating system like windows was corrupted.....

there is a quick format that erases the data on the disk..... but it can be recovered by some softwares like unformat

there is this low level format that erases the data and its mirror image that cant be unerase or unformated.....

It removes the master file table, which tells the operating system where files are. The data remains unless you actually write over every bit.

formatting anything is restoring it to what it was before you started using it a.k.a. deleting everything on it.

go to a command prompt (Start / Run) and type "format c:\"...it will tell you all about it
