This is my take on it.

Ethics assumes that the goal is honesty (for example) without worrying about how that goal came about or why we ought to seek it. Ethics then deals with the mechanics of how to achieve the goal.

Morality involves motive to why we seek the goal. Morality always involves a moral authority even if that authority is very weak, e.g. "it just felt like the right thing to do".

The ethical person merely figures out the right course of action while the truly moral person actually does it.
