Hi,
So I am started a dog apparel line. I have been sewing my friends who have little dogs clothing for a long time and they really think that this is something I should start a business for. Not just advice from them but from others as well. I had an offer to design for a dog merchandise company but would rather do it on my own. I know some might think it's silly but my friends' dogs are their children to them! So, I really enjoy making them stuff. I was wondering on some idea on how to start. I have started amongst my friends but they are more gifts then business...should I start my own website?? Ebay store?? Please expand on some ideas...

THANKS ALL!!

It's a really nice Idea!
to make fashion clothes for dogs ^___^(I think girls would love it)
you can hire a creative artist on deviantart .com to make you the design, then you buy the tools and sew.if the buisness been a hit then you should think about enlarging the business.

good luck!

eBay stores don't get seen much, so I'd go with your own website. A cross check with google.com to see what your competition is can help you set pricing and see what else is out there.

If you specialize, the small dog sizes are super hot now in the dog boutiques on the west coast, contacting some of them to see if they'll carry your line could be lucrative.

I know of someone who got more business than she could handle by focusing on greyhounds and doing up doggie coats for just that breed, she got the word out to the various greyhound rescue groups and the orders from people who have the rescued dogs have been pouring in enough she had to tone back on advertising, she could barely keep up with the business.

Doggie T-shirts are superhot right now (trade magazine article last month said it's a rising star not expected to peak for about 5 years, thanks to Paris Hilton). The sayings have to be cutting edge and/or funny though. East coast boutiques and groomers who carry 'supplies' can be as good as west coast, but you'll have to do the legwork finding the right ones. Independantly owned stores are better than chain stores--the bigger chains are limited in what they can buy because they have a buyer who only allows them to order from what the company warehouses. It's the independants that are more flexible with stuff.

There's a local place north of me who looks for unique doggie stuff, you can email them with some pictures and see if they're interested. Here's their site--- http://petportofcall.com/

Hi,
I think this is such a Wonderful idea and I so want to see it after you get all the legalities done to protect yourself and this new company that you are going to form!

A website, doggie clothes r us maybe? But a big YES for the website to be the word out there! I have search before looking for a sweater for my Boxer. The WEBSITE, I think would get you more hits than you doing Ebay.

Again I pray you have mounds of Good Blessings!!

Hi,

Why not try pet stores they might be interested,. You could let them have some on consignment to see how their customers like them.
