i bought this bike with 4000 mi on it . there was a fire under the seat that took out most of the electrical in that spot . i hav replaced all of the damaged parts , but the rear fender strut on the right side was damaged as well. i had a fab shop remove both fender struts and i have installed a spring seat and now there is nowhere to put the fuel pump (without relocating it). i have run the bike in my shop with a remote tank and had no problems at different throttle positions. i assume that it will be ok , but could use the input. obviously the fuel pump is there for a reason and it would'nt be that big a deal to mount it, but it would be more hassle free to gravity feed. any input would be great, thanx. it is a 95 vt600 vlx, i have other bikes so this one i bought just to goof around with . i am into it about 1000 bucks now including the purchase price.

I would think it is for proper fuel delivery to prevent fuel starving on a hard accel or under a load. I don't think it has a return line does it? I am going off of foggy memory from a co worker who owned one back in the 90s.
Sorry about the crappy answer, but this way I can find the question w/o going through the pages to see what the real story is cause I would like to know.
I am also interested in the fabs you have done and think you will have a fun bike when you are finished.

interior the Nineteen Twenties, 18 international places issued patents to Bellocq for his stunning pump which curiously violates organic regulation. via arising compression waves in a pipe, water could be compelled to run uphill previous the 33 foot cut back imposed via Toricelli's regulation.. To stress water larger, government have agreed that it could desire to be pushed from below. To convince patent examiners that this grow to be no longer some sort of perpetual action, Bellocq put in his pump atop a development & invited patent officers to study it. They observed it draw a gradual flow up a pipe 80 ft severe. no longer till they dropped weights down the pipe and located no hidden equipment did they have self belief their eyes, renowned that Bellocq had got here across a sparkling concept, and granted his patent. In Bellocq's pump a piston vibrates promptly with an particularly short stroke. It deals hammer like blows to a column of water in a pipe. His concept is that once the frequency of the blows is strictly timed for the dimensions of the pipe "table sure waves" are set up. Layers are formed the place the water is alternately rarefied and compressed without shifting. halfway between incredible and on the backside are areas the place water rushes alternately up and down via waves. while a one-way ball valve is extra on the backside, water enters from exterior at one component in each wave cycle, to replace water shifting upward from the backside of the pipe. as quickly as interior, it won't be able to back out. each inflow of water "inches" the whole column upward, without interfering with the waves that holiday trough it. A valve on the opening, whilst no longer mandatory, improves the performance.

sorry bro, but it needs that fuel pump. You need the fuel pressure or it won't get enough fuel and will act up pretty badly whenever you hit the throttle.
