There is a "non-binding" resolution before Congress that will call the death's of 1.5 million Armenians, killed by Ottoman Turks around the time of WWI genocide. These deaths occured as a result of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, and is ancient history, yet Nancy Pelosi and her "cure all or kill all" friends in the House want to pass this resolution because "they can." Turkey is a key player in maintaining a supply route to our Military personel in Iraq and Afghanistan; they have been our allies for decades, and now, because of the liberal thinking of a few, Turkey may now become a part of the problem in the Middle East instead of part of the cure. They have recalled their Ambassador to Washington, to discuss the anti-Turkish agenda now before the House and Senate...it looks grim from all points of view. So tell me...do we need another enemy is the Middle East? Do we need to make waves over a situation that happened nearly 100 years ago? Please share your good thoughts.Thanks.

There is no question in my mind that it will harm our relationship. Turkey has allready "temp" recalled their ambassdor. I dont know if the Dems are doing this on purpose, so that our relations are harmed thus limiting our supply movement from turkey. I honestly dont know. If it were not for Iraq, I would not care for this bill.

No matter where you stand on the war, I think this bill ultimately harms our troops.

Genocide is genocide. It's good that we as a moral nation would be unwilling to trade the truth for strategy. Turkey is currently endangering the American operation by bombing Iraq. So, no love there.

However, I wish President Bush would be man enough to stand up for what is right. He's the moral guy, right? He's the hardline foreign policy leader that defends American ideals, right? So, why doesn't he support this resolution (which is 100% right, although far too late). Finally, Turkey needs us a lot more than we need them: if you think this will be anything more than just a bunch of bluster and handwringing, then you are overemphasizing the situation. The current Turkish government is opposed by those protesters that were in the streets the past few days....so are they really gonna support those protesters or will they say they support them and then join the best partner in the region (who else are they gonna side with, Iran or Syria who they despise?).

In summary, stand up for the truth no matter the cost. It's about morality. And there is no way anything bad can come from Turkey as a result of this situation: they don't have the power.

First of all, I'm not a liberal. I am republican and so are most Armenian-Americans and I support this resolution.
You should re-word yourself and say the "death of 1.5 million Christians killed by Muslims in a Jihad" because thats what the Armenian genocide was.

Did you know Freedom of Speech is outlawed in Turkey? Did you know Turkey is still doing honor killings?

Why does the United States support a country that does that? Just because of misle bases?

Did you knows that the resolution has been coming up for the past 25 years and everytime it has come up the US government says "this is not the right time" just like they are now. During Clintons presidency the same thing was being said that is being said now and there was no war.
So when will it be the right time? Never is the right answer.

Armenian-Americans have been trying for the past 25 years for the US to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
Its recognized in countless other countries like Canada, Italy, Greece, France, Poland, etc.

You said it happened 90 years after the fact, did you know alot of the survivors of that genocide are still alive? They were children when the Turks raped their mothers and fathers, chopped their aunts and uncles into pieces, hung their brothers and sisters on crosses and then burned them alive. Leaving the survivors as orphans who alot wound up in orphanges in America in 1915.
Their still alive, don't you think the USA should recognize what happened to them while their still alive?

Did you know Turkey never admitted they did the genocide, they lie and say it never happened, Turks claim Both Armenians and Greeks comitted a Genocide to them in 1915, they hold rallies in streets of America including outside the White House stating this. You can see the videos and photos Here:
http://www.theforgotten.org/denial

http://www.theforgotten.org/denial2005/
Did you know its against the law in turkey for anyone to say the Armenian Genoicde happened. Its Penal Code 301 in Turkey. The punishment is jail. Famous journalist Hrant DInk was sent to jail for saying the Armenian Genocide happened then he was killed, his son has to serve 1 year in jail for saying the Armenian Genocide happened/

In turkey their history books are re-written stating the Armenian Genocide never happened. The country is teaching their people lies which is causing a dangerous situation..

Should the USA deny the Sept 11 attacks happened because Osama Bin Laden makes a good ally?

Don't you think its ironic the USA is allies with a country Turkey who is Muslim and comitted a JIHAD (genocide) to Christians -the Armenians who deny it ever even happened?

If your grandfather was alive and told you how his father was hung on a cross burned alive, his mother was raped and killed, his uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters were all raped, chopped into pieces, tortured in front of him by muslims you want the people who did it to at least say sorry, right? Not re-write history books and say your grandfathers family killed and raped them?

My Grandfather is 95 years old, all he wants in life is to see the USA recognize this before he dies. Hes lived in this country since he was a littly boy.

Resolution 106 accuses Turkey without proper evidence. The evidence put in front of us for these accusations are sketchy at best and mostly drawn from Armenian sources. Even worse, the Pelosi and co. who are trying to implicate Turks, the members of the Congress, naturally are uninformed about the events that happened 100 years ago and 1000s miles away. Yet, Turks are judged in absentia and are deemed to be guilty beyond any reasonable doubt. This also violates the simple American judiciary rule: innocent until proven guilty.

Failing to apply basics of law, are the Pelosi and co. using any independent historical information they have? No again. They are reading from script written by Armenian interest groups. But we cannot require them to be scientists either as they fail the test of scientific inquiry before making a conclusion. This kind of premature / unjustified conclusion is a spat on the face of historians.

Disregarding rules of law and science, there remains only one motivation for Pelosi and co.: The concerns of financing a reelection campaign, locking the Armenian votes coming from places like Glendale, CA. That is unacceptable. That is why I am not surprised with the approval rate of 11% for Congress. It is sad that our representatives are focusing on issues that they have no jurisdiction over and no information about while we, middle class Americans, face health care, education, employment problems.

Curious I am if our Congress cares for equity as we know it does not for law or science. Namely, will our congress have resolutions about the other killings say Romans killing Vizigoths or Normans killing British or French killing Algerians or Japanese killing Chinese? The principle of equity calls for a resolution for each of these instances and many others. By the way, the financing a reelection campaign in the western states calls for giving the priority to Chinese vs. Japanese because of the ethnic Chinese over here. And I think the Chinese have deeper pockets. I can see $$$ signs in the eyes Pelosi and co.

This takes me to my final question. Are you comfortable with the impact of ethnic interest groups on the Congress? This Armenian case illustrates to us that the ethnic groups have the ability to take our representatives as hostages and direct them to one or another resolution. I personally see this as a big problem for our political system. This Armenian sponsored resolution reveals an important weakness of our system: decisions are based on campaign financing rather than law, science or equity. At this juncture, I conclude by saying that campaign finance reform is long overdue. The great influence of Armenian interest groups on our representatives must be reduced/eliminated.

Armenians stop hijacking our Congress.

First, attempt to be particular you have the main suitable invoice. it is not abode decision 362. That one improve into for scholarships for math and technology instructors (short answer). Your link is for H. Con. Res. 362 that is a thoroughly distinctive undertaking. 362 (the present one) in simple terms expands on the Clinton coverage from 1996. we don't desire nor could we seek for any style of approval from the UN to handle our countries issues. there is adequate evidence that, like Korea, Iran is enriching Uranium and that Uranium ought to actual finally end up interior the incorrect arms. those strikes are mandatory interior the international and in case you do no longer understand that then you certainly are the two too hassle-free or too naive to even deserve an opinion on worldwide politics.

so you are saying that a supply route cannot be redirected through saudi arabia, if it isn't already coming through there any way??
maybe you should take a look at a map some time.
seems to me, that a supply route through Saudi Arabia(Bush's buddies) would work much better that having to slip it between Iran and Syria. As if, UAE is going to deny our supply ships port.... lol yeah right!
Do you really believe everything you are told by right-wing blow hards?

At a time when we are fighting genocide, hung Saddam and his compatriots for it, and are trying to prevent it throughout the world, it is time to buck up and condemn all forms of it, regardless of what country has it in their past. Otherwise, we are denouncing or standing up for anything, we are just showing how much of a hypocritical our entire system is because we do whatever suits us, at the time.....pretty much what everyone thinks already, and why they aren't being cooperative.
If the Turks want to make threats over some BS such as this, I say drop some sanctions on them to!

They are to Europe, as Mexico is to us anyway.

The Dems realize that if they can make an enemy of Turkey and have them close our base there, it stops the supply lines to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is a political move to try to disrupt the war. This way they can blame Turkey if we end up having to withdraw troops, instead of taking the political risk of cutting off funding like they did in Vietnam. Do you really believe the Dems are concerned with what happened there over 100 years ago. If that were the case we would all be paying reparations.

HR 106 is a product of the Armenian lobby, that much is obvious.

That being said, now that the damned thing is introduced, bowing down before the wishes of some repressed, half-democracy that can't handle history might be more embarrassing.

Turkey never dealt with what they did to the Armenians, and their attitude toward the Kurds similarly has resulted in mass death and instability. It's well time for Turkey to grow up and come to terms with the fact that there's nothing special about Turkey or Turkish culture. The fact that even discussing the Armenians or Kurds is a crime in Turkey should put everyone on notice that the Turks are full of it.

Look, you don't want to hear this but this is fact and truth... they are doing the RIGHT thing! It doesn't matter what Turkey feels or thinks... they are doing the RIGHT THING.

That's a concept that is lost in our government today.

What you are saying is like saying, "Oh let's not talk about the Holocaust because we want to get along and have trade relations with Germany..."

Yes. Look, I can't defend what they did, it was evil and genocide, but it endangers the US now by potentailly pissing off a ally. We need Turkey if we are to ever win in Iraq and if we ever go to war with Iran. We also need to keep Turkey as a ally as they are the only other non-Muslim led country in the ME other then Israel.
