I agree with Den B7 in general, but I'd recommend you put her in front of the computer, let her control the keyboard and mouse (and the power button) so she can learn about the computer from step 1 - turning it on. If you're on XP, set up a login for her, so she can learn about logging in, setting a password, managing her own files. Pull up a chair next to her so she can ask you questions, but let her control the process. She'll learn a lot more that way.

Go to the library and get a couple of books on elementary computing and possibly one on microsoft workplace. Then give up through walmart and opt for Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing $10 tops. The medical professionals workplace most commonly makes use of a useful information access software/process so typing might be extra essential than understanding the bits and bobs of a pc.

As a person who teaches senior citizens everyday. I say start very simple by showing her how to play Solitaire. The game is fun and she'll learn how to navigate menus, change options, click the mouse, drag & drop, right click and maximize a screen... all without knowing that she's learning.

Next move her onto the Paint program and challange her to write her name or draw something. She'll again learn about using the mouse and menus (especially the 'clear image' option) and more because now she can save her artwork.

Then go to WordPad and keep everything simple. When she asks, "How do I change the margins" or something like that, then offer her more lessons.

NEVER RUSH, NEVER SHOW HER BY DOING IT YOURSELF & NEVER DO IT FOR HER.

Let mom do it at her own pace!
