There's always the thoughts that
Christ is happy that it brings family
together and congregations together
to celebrate his birth...after all it fulfilled
the prophecy that he would save humanity
from sin - there are people in the world
who are grateful for it and actually celebrate
it for what it is - thankfulness.

As for the majority of the world, it doesn't
seem to matter whether you're Christian or
not...people have come together over so
many years to spend time with family from
different parts of the world...and you can't
say that isn't a good thing.

I do believe, however, that Christmas has
become somewhat of a holiday in which
people forget it's true meaning (that's if
they believe in Christianity). People get so
tied up in buying and receiving presents that
they become consumed in materialistic things
that it just ruins the meaning of Christmas -
I would think that might make Jesus sad, but
it isn't a sin to make others happy is it? And if
people make each other happy by spending time
together and being thankful for their families, I
would think that makes Jesus really happy.

Jesus loves you (:

hoorah~

I am not a Christian. However, I for one do not feel there is anything wrong about celebrating anybody's birthday. Much more so of somebody like Jesus who had come down to save us.We do that even in our houses celebrating with pomp the birthdays of family members.Christmas is just an extension of this practice. I understand that even the birthday of Christ has been adjusted to coincide with the Roman festival of the Birth of the Sun.(Postponement of celebration of birthday to a convenient time is not unknown. The birthday of Guru Nanakji is celerated months after it happened. The practical people that Sikhs are they found that at the actual time it happened they are busy in their fields and may not be able to celebrate it with the enthisiasm the event deserves. It has been postpones till after the crops are harvested and is c elebrated with eclat.Nobody thinks anything wrong about it)Ritualism is inevitable when the religion spreads. This has happened in Hinduism were the birthdays of Ram and Krishna are celebrated with gaiety. The celebration in no way diminishes our regard for the dieties. We need not look at these celebrations with long drawn faces These in no way disturb the piety of the individuals. On the other hand it bolsters it. The attenendance in Churches is quite high during Christmas. In fact it is imperative that we should have some such occasions for the periodical renewal of the faith which sags at other times when we are more busy in mundane matters as a reminder(in this ca se)of the sacrifice of Jesus.

As a humble man who started his life in a cow shed I don't think Jesus would like what is being done in the name of celebrating his birth. Also a disgrace is the commercialisation of his Crucifixion. Easter is almost as OTT as Christmas. Perhaps the answer lies with us .If we all refused to be sucked into the money grabbing season that is Christmas then stores like the one you have mentioned would have to change their policies. A good idea would be for people to boycott it. I haven't seen any decorations round where I live but I wouldn't be surprised if there is somewhere in the UK that already has decorations up .!
p.s.I don't wish to offend my friends across the pond but the Americans have in my opinion the most irritating habit surrounding Christmas. They don't wish people a "Happy Christmas", like we do, they wish them happy holidays. That is not even paying lip service to the religious season it is meant to be. It is just ignoring the fact that it is meant to celebrate Christs' birth and treating it like any other holiday !

GrandPa, I have to tell you, I don't think He'd be happy about this. It takes away the meaning of God's gift, His SON, Jesus, to the world! Commercialism, uses His blessed birth to make money off of the greatest gift mankind has ever known!

This behavior, reminds me of the money changers, in the Temple! Jesus, had righteous indignation over them changing money in His Father's house! I cannot imagine how He must feel when Santa is more popular than HIM!

It breaks my heart but, all I can do is be faithful to Him and keep this day a celebration of God's perfect Gift, Jesus Christ!

Twenty years ago we would put up decorations for Halloween, then Thanksgiving, and the the day after Thanksgiving we would put up Christmas decorations. Now as far as Jesus, now he would treat business the way he did the money changers. Who picked this day was a pope and a pope picked Easter for his death and resurrection, not because it was the day but because there were pagan holidays then.

That's a good one, Hi it's Dianne. I've always been against all of this Christmas gift giving. I guess it's ok for children to receive a couple of presents, but with the way the stores push it, it's just to make money....right. and Christmas stuff is already up!!!!

Have you seen the A&E Documentary on the History of Christmas? Well, it doesn't surprise me at all. I strongly recommend documentary.

I don't think he cares. We were never told to celebrate his birthday or his death.....and we really don't know for sure when either one happened. So we can't really celebrate them. I don't like what they do to Christmas or Easter but they are based around Pagan Holidays, and most of the things associated with them, have nothing whatsoever to do with Jesus...

.I laughed when I heard one town, was letting all the religions put up something to do with the Holidays...Christians were told they couldn't put up a nativity scene but they could put up a Christmas tree...which has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus...oh well,,,,if you want to celebrate them,,,,that's fine, keep them as Christian as you can....don't get involved in the commercial part of it.

I don't think that Jesus would appreciate the commercialization of his birthday or bumper stickers with his name on them!
