One can look at this from several perspectives. The King is a very smart and educated person and knows how to manipulate for the betterment of the country. The country has never been conquered out right. From what I have seen so far here, Thailand is now the private playground for the English. I have met some real nice English people but for the most part, their actions and behavior would not be tolerated in a respectable community. Sorry English. Thats what I have seen both in Pattaya and Bangkok. Now maybe there is a real need for a world playground. If so, I'm game.

Thailand has definately been conquered. Basically what needsome fun said. Maybe they didnt conquer it in a military move...but english and australians run rampant in pataya and bangkok and its their money that keeps alot of the economy going. Its the best place on earth in my opinion but too many westerners travel there for the wrong reasons.

I believe it is. The King deftly played the british and france against each other. He must've been a genius.
