Glenn Miller's Little Brown Jug or Chattanooga Choo Choo? or George Shearing, British jazz pianist? What were your favorites by either of them?

I'm a Glenn Miller fan from way back. I can't say that I have one particular favorite of his, I liked them all. But if I had to mention just one it would be "String Of Pearls".

George Shearing has also been around for quite a number of years. He's good, but I'm a fusion jazz fan, Dave Brubeck is tops with me in the jazz field. And when I comes to fusion, I don't think you can beat his "Take Five" to this day.

Glenn Miller - Pennsylvania 6 - 5000 - String of Pearls - Chattanooga Choo Choo -

Benny Goodman -- Sing Sing Sing With A Swing - Don't Be That Way - Stompin' At The Savoy - One O'clock Jump

But these are only a few of the " good ones " for there are many good ones.

All the above. I like all kinds of music from New Orleans Jazz to Big Band to Bluegrass and Country Western but I have to admit When it comes to Acid Rock, Heavy Metal, Hip-Hop and most Rap I have a bit of a hard time finding something to like.

Miller's String of Pearls and Chattanooga Choo Choo
Dorsey's Caravan or was it Hindustan or maybe both.
Just about anything from Goodman's Carnegie Hall Concert.
And ANYTHING by Preservation Hall Jazz-band!

I like some jazz and big band music, especially from the late twenties and thirties. There were lots of big bands in those days and most of them had a few hits. Paul Whiteman, Louis Armstrong, Ray Noble, Guy Lombardo, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and many, many more.

I LOVE big band music! It drives the 33 year old lady I work with crazy. That makes me like it in a differnet dimention. It reminds me of my childhood, parents and good times. I know most of the words, too. My favorites now are Linda Ronstadt's "What's New" album and Rod Stewarts standards album. I forget the name. I have Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, The Ink Spots, Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and a bunch of others.

Both have all Glenn Miller's music. And a lot of jazz. but more the older ones like Peggie Lee, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan. I just love music. Except heavy metal and rap and some of the strange songs they sing today.

I prefer jazz, although big band music was WONDERFUL to dance by, but in today's world where can one go to hear such a band, much less to dance by?

I simply loved George Shearing and when in college was treated to a live performance of his at a club in D.C. on New Year's Eve with my parents and grandmother.

My favorite jazz group was MJQ...Modern Jazz Quartet!!

Growing up my parents, especially my Mom always had either Glenn Miller or the Dorsey Brothers playing around the house. Sometimes it was Benny Goodman. Then after Nat King Cole she would play Johnny Mathis all day til I thought I would go blind.
