Which college is better for someone planning to become a physician?

Also I heard that UC Merced hasn't been around that long so it doesn't have a vast selection of classes. By 2010 what kind of classes (or majors) will be available there?

All the UC schools are excellent. UCR and UC-Merced are the two lowest ranked of the UC schools. However, if you threw a dart at a map of the US, you are more likely than not to hit a state that doesn't have a public university in it that is as good as RIverside.

Merced is VERY new. You should choose Riverside over it. On the other hand -- you should choose ANY other UC school over Riverside.

If you are interested in courses offered at Merced -- go to their web site.

UCR has a great bio-med program which is very well respected and highly competitive. one of the nice things about UCR is the small class size -- you can actually get to know your professors. I know many who have graduated from UCR who are now physicians, pharmacists, dentists. etc. Also, UCR has received approval for a medical school.

Probably neither. I say just go to community college and transfer to a better 4 year university. UCR and UC Merced aren't very selective and they aren't very well known.

I recommend that you if want small class size and be robbed, go to UCMerced. I hear a lot of bad things about this university.
