Talk to your health care provider about it. I just wanted to mention the difference between birth control and contraception though. If it makes a difference to you, birth control does not prevent conception. You may still conceive and not get pregnant. Contraception prevents fertilization of the egg. But talk to health care provider about your symptoms and if it matters you can ask if the new method is actually contraception or birth control.

Unfortunately, all forms of hormonal birth control have some side-effect of weight gain. The method that is usually considered the worst in this category is the Depo shot (the every three month injection). Usually, an IUD has the least amount of side effects in terms of weight gain and mood swings. You can try switching to a pill, as the different variations in pills might affect your mood and weight less. Talk to your doctor about the possibility to switching to a low-hormone pill, like Ortho Tri-Cyclene Lo and see what he or she thinks.

I know many people don't like the pill because they can't remember to take it. But I take YAZ and I love it. It really cuts out the emotional part of being on your period. I hardly ever felt agitated and sad...i mean you know! Also, it relieved my cramps and lightened my mesntrual flow. I highly recommend it. Oh, I also had no weight gain. I don't recommend long-term use of the IUD. THere can be many complications later on if you want to become pregnant. A foreign device in your uterus causes scar tissue to develop, and heavy bleeding. Im sure you heard all the side effects since you have been on it for three years. I really don't recommend long term use though. My friend says it best, "take the pill, use a condom, and pull out..its 100% effective!" she is blunt but I thought I'd share!

I had the same problem went from 140lbs to 185lbs(now 160lbs) on the depo in less than a year its HORRIBLE i lost my sex drive, depressed, moody, anxious, and my period completly stopped which i know some people like but just feels scary to me. All hormonal birth control has a risk of weight gain thats why i will be getting off of all hormones. but i hear that the ring is somewhat better.

How about a non-hormonal copper T IUD? The only side effect with that is you may have more heavy periods, and they may be painful. Mine have always been heavy and painful, and I haven't really noticed that they're better or worse. They could take the Mirena out and insert a copper T and you could see how it goes.

ask your MD about nonhormonal IUD or a progestn only pill
If you have a lively relationship with your MD you could say: give me three estrogen pills n some progestn only pills, I'll take them and perceive emotional effects, if any From there we can see if estrogenic nuvaring is the way to go, nonhormonal IUD or progestn only pill is most copacetic

lol -- I gave my granddaughter a quarter as a birth control device. I told her to put it between her knees and hold it there. She was to give it back to me the next morning. Oops, somehow she lost it.

Don't have sex! Only have it when you want to conceive. Hard to do? Not if you don't want to get pregnant. Or better yet make sure you use a condom. You won't need anything else.
