the world has always been passionate over dogs. i love my dogs. they are my children. i dont want human children. ever. just because "god" gave us animals does not mean that we can abuse them or treat them without respect. we can not treat them like objects to just dispose of whenever we see fit. they are sentient beings that deserve kindness, respect, love, and compassion.
as far as michael vick is concerned...he deserves what he gets and more. yes, he killed dogs. the majority serial killers start off killing "just" dogs.
what does it teach children to allow animal abuse to continue? nothing. people have choices. they can choose to breed or not, to be productive in society, to not cause harm to others. animals can only choose what we impose on them. they need a voice to let others know that abuse and misuse is not to be tolerated.
and yes, i have more sympathy for animals that suffer than i do people. its because of people that our world is in the shape it is: global warming, droughts, destruction of land, pollution...

Dogs, and other companion animals, are loved because they are loyal and are great company. They're sweet, they're happy to see us when we come home, they're affectionate no matter how we look, what we say, what we do... their love is truly unconditional. I really do prefer dogs to some people. People can be cruel, selfish, evil, greedy, and all while knowing the difference between right and wrong. A dog will never lie to you or try to deceive you... As for preferring to not have children, well that's every couple's personal decision. If people would rather have pets than children, that might be best for everybody. Why force people who don't want children to have them? That wouldn't be a good situation. What Michael Vick did was disgusting and horrible. Being "human" as you say, and being a thinking, rational, moralistic being, supposedly more intelligent and more moral than animals... he knew that what he was doing was wrong. He was causing pain to animals... which he didn't care about at all. Do you think that's right? Do you think it's okay to cause harm to animals just because you might think they are below us? A person with half a heart and feelings would never do such a thing.... no matter if they think animals are equal to us or below us. To torture for fun is not the same as to eat or to use for work etc. By the way, if Michael Vick had killed people, I don't think he'd be playing either. So why should he play for killing dogs? Because dogs aren't important? An your comment about the officer killing in self defense... truly off base. What does that have to do with torturing someone or something for fun? To kill in self defense is acceptable... no matter if it's an animal or person. I'd shoot a dog or a lion that was attacking me the same I'd shoot a person.... That isn't the same at all as torturing something for pure entertainment and money.

I definitely care more about homeless animals than I do about homeless people. A person can go get a JOB and feed himself, and take control of his life. If a dog is homeless, it's because a PERSON MADE HIM THAT WAY.
To answer the question you posed; NO. There's nothing wrong with choosing to value a dog more than a person. I have a sneaking suspicion that your mindset is tainted by religious belief. So this next part is going to upset you. I don't know if you realize it, but there are far more than enough people in the world, and most of them do NOT make it a better place. We should start sterilizing people, who breed indiscriminately, and without thought to the quality of person(s) they will bring into this world.
The reason so many people would rather have a dog than a child is because your child will grow up and end up taking everything you've ever done for him/her for granted, and resenting you. The love you give a dog is returned to you 100 fold. Loyalty, devotion and affection are traits that dogs posses no matter what. How many people can one rely on for those qualities? Not too many.
Dogs don't litter or pollute the environment. They don't create traffic, or add to global warming. They don't steal or hurt anyone for no reason. I'd rather deal with a pack of dogs than a pack of teenagers ANY DAY.
That's why.

Adam, Eve, blah, blah, blah.
Not everyone believes as you do, or are you too ignorant to realize that?
Argue your point without the Biblical references if you want to reach a broader audience.
And, what's wrong with embracing all creatures? What's wrong with becoming a champion for dogs, if that is where you feel you are needed? It's not as if those of us who try to find homes for dogs are doing so at a child's expense.
Think of Michael Vick? I do. I think of him serving time for horrific crimes, and it gives me a small amount of comfort. He chose to throw away his career and life.
BTW: You are an animal, too.

I admit I'm not as nearly as enthralled with dogs as I am with children. For the first few years of their lives, both dogs and children are pretty much the same mentally. Then when the children get older they become much more independent and interesting to be around because you realize that they are just as intelligent as you and capable of knowing as much as you do. A thirteen year old child is light years ahead of a dog the same age when it comes to knowledge and ability. Eventually, they can become independent adults who are capable of holding a job and supporting themselves. Having a dog is like living with a toddler for seven to fifteen years. They will never grow up, become independent, move out of the house, and be able to care for you when you're older. Having a pet is a nice thing and all but they are not substitutes for relationships with other people and they also are not children.
