The common point is the missionary's that thought they were black heathens and then proceded to ignore their culture and teach them the ways of the Lord whether they liked it or not.

In a manner of speaking, yes they fell to a more advanced society. Other similarities would be that they could not grow in size or technology without facing starvation.
