Try a scribe line. Lay out a straight edge across your work and draw a line across it, then make marks exactly where you wish the holes to be and use a center punch or an awl to make starter holes to center your drill bit to the exact dimension needed. After the holes are drilled sand the lines off, and nobody will know they were even there!

Is this what you needed?

Sounds to me like you need a drill press, not a regular drill. That makes straight holes, no angles off one way or the other.

Mark your holes. Use the drill press, with the right size and kind of drill bits on your item. The drill press allows you to make close holes, if you make a jig (something to guide your item, out of wood or other material) you will have more control over the exact spots to drill.

Info on jigs copied from:

Jig -- A woodworking aid for controlling the tool or locating the work-piece for added safety or accuracy. A device used to make special cuts, guide a tool, or aid in woodworking operations. Similar in function to a fixture. The main difference between fixtures and jigs is that a jig may be designed to move or slide as it is used. Fixtures, on the other hand, are usually a stationary aid, brace or support. (See also fixture.)

Hi, let me tell u is not as simple as we may think, first, what kind of material are u going to drill. 2nd are u using the righ drill bit for the job? 3rd , are u using the righ tool for the job?
> let say is a concrete wall. then u need masonry bits and a hammer drill.
>let say is wood then u need to know what kind of hole are u going to drill. there is a lot of drill bits depending on the hole that u try to make.
>maybe is marble or corian or tiles then u need a "GlassBit" is a special bit that does not look like a regular drill bit.
anyway allways to make a hole the drill must rotate clockwise ---------> and i would go either way left or right , the way i feel more comfortable.
