My, uh... "friend" is being threatened by a clone avatar who is trying to replace him. What should he do to protect himself?

I don't really think there's much your friend can do.
block him
Just put your profile to private. That way he can't add your friends to his contacts and get everyone confused.
We know you're the person in our contacts because there's an icon by your avatar.
Don't worry we know when it's you because you're really nice. I'm going to guess the clone isn't so nice.

1. Block the clone ASAP.
2. Report if neccessary
3. Change avatar & avatar name
I wish your 'friend' goodluck - it must be the worst feeling being cloned or stalked :((

Have a look also through their file there must be something you can report them for.
