Corn bread baking in the oven. This is just a childhood memory. My mom always made a bread of some sort to stretch out meals (I have 7 brothers and sisters). And I just love the smell it brings back great memories!!

LILAC

In the village where I grew up, there was a house next door that had a large lilac bush~a tree really, at least 15 feet high perhaps more~with the color of blossoms that ARE lilac. The branches arched over so that the ends of the branches touched the ground, leaving a space beneath that became my special hiding place. With a book and/or comics in hand, I would climb in under the branches and sit with my back against the trunk. If it was breezy, I would be showered with little pale lavender blossoms. I buy room spray in lilac, and it always makes me think of being a child under that tree.

My mom said that she plans to plant a white lilac, perhaps in the spring, near my bedroom window. Sadly, we lost a mimosa that we had had for awhile~too long a drought one year. But, maybe we can raise a strong lilac though it will take way too long to match that old tree for me to plan any expeditions Underneath.

When I was a little girl I can always remember Thursday was the day my Mother would do all the laundry & mop...
Also on this day she would fix a extra large meatloaf,,we would have for Dinner and my Father would take sandwich's for his lunch.
She would also use Bleach in laundry and on floors.

Every so often I will smell this smell and it brings back very fond memories.

Rain I would play in summer rain as a child,
pavement makes me think of Silver Dollar City (local theme park),
the smell of hamburgers cooking wafting from a restaurant on a hot summer night makes me think of the smell of the hamburger stands at the county fair,
babies- my own,
coffee first thing in the morning my grandmother always made coffee and bacon for my granddad every day when they were living.

Fresh warm yeast rolls, right out of the oven.
The aroma dances through your nose
and into your heart.
And my Grandmother is alive again,
she is baking breakfast rolls for the family.
There is fresh butter melting on the stove
with fresh grated cinnamon sprinkled on top.
I can smell the almond icing boiling,
I hear the gentle bubbles popping so I know it's almost ready.

The smell of lavender flowers to me, it reminds me when I used to garden with my grandma when I was little. She has since passed away and I immediately go back to that memory with my grandma every time I smell them. There is nothing as special to me as that!
