My friend told me that her mom hit her the other day!

I'm not sure what I should do...If I tell someone, she'll never trust me again.

Can anyone help me?

Be a friend if she wants to talk about it then be supportive and helpful. If she wanted to report her mom then she would do that. She instead chose to talk to you about it. Accept this task as a friend and do your best. Just because no one hits you doesn't mean that's how everyone runs their house. Was it the first time, is it bad, how bad. Discus it with your friend , don't right off suggest turning some one in cause then she might think if she decides to share stuff like this then you might freak out. If it is bad and or all the time this could be her cry for help. This is considered a private matter. You've got to work it out with your friend by proving to her you are there for her no matter what and she needs to work it out with her mom. Stuff like this is tricky. Be a friend, be patient encourage her to solve this herself.

Is this something that happens a lot, or was it just a one time thing? If it was just one time, let it go and don't tell anyone. If it's something that happens all the time, your friend is being abused and you need to tell someone. Your friend's life could be at stake. You can call child services anonymously.

Did your friend have a mark? They is hitting and there is hitting. If the mother hit her all the time, then that is abuse. Just keep close to your friend and let her know that she can talk to you if needed. as for telling anyone. I wouldn't say anything till you know the whloe story.

all the best

Tell someone, if you're a good friend you'll care more about her being safe then trusting you. She'll thank you in the long run.

It would help if you knew why her mother hit her. There are two sides to any story. I don`t buy into the business of NEVER hitting a child, even when they ask for it.

parents are allowed to hit thier kids. the question is, was it abuse? if there are visible marks on your friend or she says it happens all the time then you should talk to a teacher or school counselor.

if this is on a regular basis tell someone at your school (like a counselor or teacher) and let them handle it, you can ask them not to tell her you were the one that asked them to help

if it's something serious, you need to tell someone - if you don't you could lose more than just a friendship...you could lose her

tell her that if she doesn't get help, then you'll do it for her...give her the option first

good luck!
