I'm totally serious. I just finished watching the Little Mermaid, and I'm really curious now.

Lets see this is Biology category. So, you'll get a biological answer. There is NO such thing as mer people. It's all imagination. So, why not just go ahead and imagine them reproducing any way you please.

The Little Mermaid has been out a long long time. Did you just land on planet Earth?

You would think that mermaids would be ----able, like human women? The fact is they reproduce like most fish. The female deposits eggs and the male fertilizes them. Tom Hanks was going to be sadly disappointed when he got to Darryl Hannah's home and tried to mate with her.

they have cloacae. the mermaid lays eggs which the merman fertilizes by ejecting his, er, gametes over the eggs. the fertilized eggs multiply until pods are formed. they look similar to a ray or skate egg case. at 8 weeks the merfetus hatches into a merlarval stage, which looks like an isopod with a face. they then hide in underwater caves until they are 18. no one knows what happens inside the caves.
