Totally normal. A full length cervix is about 3-4cm in length. You might be a tiny bit effaced (thinned) but not enough to be concerned about at 32+ weeks. If you're closed, that's more important.

And you won't know if you're dilating early unless you are checked. How early did you dilate with the first one? Regardless, at nearly 33 weeks, you are heading to the point where baby would probably totally be fine if you delivered early. Probably wouldn't need to be in the NICU, just a special care nursery for observation. So don't worry.

Things look promising that you'll make it close, if not full term.

Everything sounds ok to me. It's good news your cervix is closed at 32 weeks. They probably won't start checking you this early for dilation. Even if you are dilating, that's normal as well and usually happens very gradually. And even if there is an emergency birth, being nearly 33 weeks gives your baby an excellent chance with the wonderful NICU care we have these days.

All the best to you and baby - keep us posted!

I have a history of having my babys early. With my first child I just went into labor at 23 weeks pregnant and ended up having her at 24 weeks she had to stay in the hospital for 6 months. That was the rough time of my life. With my second baby I had him at 34 weeks pregnant and he was very healthy he was in a special care nursery but he came straight home form the hospital with me. Now I'm 36 weeks pregnant and at 32 weeks I went to the doctor and I was 2 cm and 80 effaced and they kept me in the hospital for a couple of days and then sent me home. I've been having contractions on and off but still noting yet so it could still be awhile before you go you never know. But good luck to you and congrats on the new baby

3cm might be 25% effaced but it isn't abnormal for the cervix to be shorter in subsequent pregnancies. It also isn't unheard of to be slightly dilated the whole time either. Nothing is ever quite the same after you give birth ;-)

If you were told that your cervix is closed then it's closed.
3 cm. would mean you are dilated(open) 3cm.
Dilation is a progressive event happening over the last month of pregnancy.
You aren't closed for 9 months and then suddenly open for the birth.
Women who do not dilate on their own are sometimes surgically helped along or given a c - section delivery.
