The US is asking Turkey to show restraint over the issue of Kurdish rebels in Iraq. How can the US ask another country to show restraint when it has resorted to armed conflict in the exact same country?

Foreign policy is probably one of the most difficult jobs that Capital Hill has to deal with. Iraq is arguably a can of worms as it is - without the invasion into it by another country - and against a group which presently is somewhat of an ally by a group which is assumed to be an ally.
Did that make sense - it confused me and I wrote it.

They are not saying that Turkey doesn't have the right to invade, they are asking them to restrain themselves from exercising that right. Things are already bad and it is universally agreed that a war with Turkey would be disastrous for us for Iraq and it could further complicate the situation with Iran.

I think your question is based on the midea that we don't have the MORAL authority to say that to Turkey.
You are correct in a sense but our moral authority is not the only issue here. Lives are at stake.

No matter how anti-war you may be I don't see how a war betweenIraq and Turkey gets our troops home any faster or changes the fact that they went in the first place . we must deal with the situation as it is.

The best thing for us to do is to try to get the two sides to the negotiating table or at least try to defuse the situation momentarily .

You can't get out of a hole by digging!!
