Check out the work of the composer's other shows. Stephen Schwartz also wrote Pippin, Children of Eden, and Wicked. There are a lot of good male songs in both Pippin and Children of Eden. Find one that works in your vocal range. There is nothing worse than hearing someone sing a song that is too high, or too low, for them.

To some extent it depends upon what role you are trying to get. For the most part, Godspell qualifies as soft rock though there are some heavier rock bits. Obviously, you want to choose a song that you know well and that emphasizes your voice well.

Having done sound on some college productions, I know that one of the big problem with rock musicals is when the singers can't compete with the band. Its hard finding musicians who dont want to just crank up the amps. As such, if I were casting for this show, I would want to make sure that my singers can project well.

For a song from the show, I would suggest "All Good Gifts". For a recent song not from the show, I would suggest something like Michael Buble's "Home."

A lot depends on your vocal range and the role you hope to get.

Without knowing much about you, I would suggest Uptown Girl from Movin Out since it's from a pop style musical. It's upbeat and not traditional. You can search for other suggestions here:

good luck

Like theatre doc said... something upbeat. Maybe even something that is from another rock musical if you can. Make sure you like and and know it when you get to the audition so you can selll the song and yourself to the director.

Something with a good beat and uptempo that you can do well. Check your repertoire.
