1(-x)^5

= 1 (-x) (-x) (-x) (-x) (-x)

if n is even: (-x)ⁿ = x
if n is odd: (-x)ⁿ = -x

so 1(-x)

= -x

multiply by one is the same so its
-x to the 5th power
and that equals -x to the 5th power cuz since the exp is odd then the power stays the same sign
