If this person is so intent of giving money away why not return to his own country where a huge number of sports clubs or deserving institutes would be glad to receive some needy assistance. Why go to Africa [a bottomless pit] and give it to those who already get assistance to waste.

It's all about publicity...

I agree with you completely. This is something that annoys me about celebrities. Going to Africa, etc.. Africa related wins them 'humanity' brownie points. In reality, if they loved their country that made them rich and famous in the first place, they would donate to the needy there. There are plenty of institutions that could use donations in Britain.

Also, what about when instead of adopting a helpless child of your own nation, they adopt African children... that one takes the cake.

I don't mean to sound apathetic to Africa's needs. It's just that, like you said, almost the entire world is already donating to every knook and cranny in Africa.

Anyone is entitled to give away charity to whoever they think needs it -- and there can be no doubt that tens of millions of people in Africa (and elsewhere) need it.

The issue is whether he is wasting his time -- in the sense of whether the money is actually getting to the people he is intending to give the money to -- or whether it is being diverted because of corruption and greed on the part of intermediaries.

As for giving it locally -- where and to whom any person gives charity is their choice -- the only "should" with regard to such actions is that our own govt should start locally before giving money to some other country.
