Only naval ships, As a Marine , we usually board more ships than sailors. We hit beaches in attack and are picked up by another ship and do beach assaults . My greatest time was after a long battle in Vietnam. We were in rice paddy water for 19 days , full of leaches and jungle rot.
After the battle that took 19 days , we were picked up by a Ship. Our clothes rotted. After the Navy Corpsmen fixed us up , we had real showers and real food (steaks) the sailors gave us their uniforms and even gave up their bunks.
It may not sound like much, but we were 5 months without a shower and only ate sea rations and they were few and far between.
I enjoyed that small voyage better than the Queen Mary

I have been aboard many, both on the Great Lakes and with the Navy in Desert Storm. I was at sea for 7 years and was a helmsman, I steered the ship.

What kind of ship. In the Navy I was on an aircraft carrier. After I got out of the service several time I took cruises on large ships. If I ever won the lottery I would like to spend the $32 million and buy my own Westport 164. And just go where I wanted.

ya on accident. when i was a kid back at the world's fair in new orleans in '84, there was a german battleship docked there and the sailors were there checking out the world's fair. well i thought it was part of the fair so i climbed aboard to tour it and check it out. i didn't get very far before a germain sailor (maybe the captain) approached me and said some stuff in german that soulded like he was angry. just then, a sailor came up who could speak english and told me i wasn't supposed to be there... he quickly showed me the way back to the dock. ...my bad
also, a few years back, i worked on a 100 foot supply boat in the gulf of mexico. i worked 3 days before i had to come home. the seasickness was just too much. the helicopter ride was awesome though. it was a bell jet ranger 434 i think. one of those executive choppers with leather seats and all. i was stylin lol.

Sure have. When I was a child, it was common for military families to travel to overseas destinations on ships when the service members PCS'd. I went across the Atlantic to and from Germany three times when my father was transferred. This practice largely ended by the late 1960s. After that, families were put on planes and flown to their new locations.
