What is the "C" for on some NFL players' uniforms??

To me it seems that it would stand for Captain... BUT tonight i saw the Seahawks KICKER w/ one on..........

its a captains emblem like they have in hockey, you can give it to any 5 players on the team

Captain. I have seen it on offensive and defensive players so I assume they have more than one.
