It's a blast!

The positives are Vegas is a fast paced 24/7 city that is booming with newcomers and development. The economy is well balanced, there are several high tech companies, a large medical system, UNLV, tourism, retirement and Nellis AFB (one of the largest military installations in the nation). LV has a unique geographic position; in which you have easy access to many outdoor attractions (snow skiing, mountain climbing, boating and water sports, hiking, biking, SoCal beaches, LA, San Diego, Phoenix, Grand Canyon, Bryce and Arches NP's in Utah); and indoors (world class dining, shopping, shows and gaming). The city is the most racially diverse I've ever lived in. Vegas beyond the Strip is much like any other city in the US its size, with planned communities, schools, churches, malls, sprawl etc... Weather from Oct-Apr can be exquisite.

The negatives are the city is booming with newcomers and development, which is creating major infrastructure and water issues, traffic, high housing prices and a ever increasing cost of living. The summers are blazing and there is sparse precipitation year around.

If you have any type of drinking, gambling or sex addiction, beware; Vegas will expose them. There's gambling, women and free drinks everywhere! I will add eating problems also, due to the all you can eat buffets are very addictive.

IMO.. the positives here outweigh the negatives, but if you're considering a move you may want to spend a few days in town outside the Strip.

Vegas is a fast town that can eat you alive. Very fast moving town. If you can get past that, it is full of opportunity and growth. Lots of money here.

For shopping, many of the high end stores you find in New York and L.A. are situated here. Same with restaurants. (Lots of awesome restaurants). Retail goes over the top in this town. I see more Bentleys and Maybachs here than L.A. or San Diego. It's disgusting.

As for the climate, it's very dry of course. It gets unbearably hot in the summer and in the winter the temperature is between 20's and 50's oftentimes with heavy winds. Even worse, when it rains, drivers get all discumbobulated.

Traffic is the worst I have ever experienced in my life. Multiple car pileups are a daily common occurance. I hate it because my daily commute roundtrip is 36 miles.

it's pretty much like everyplace else. i mean we have a starbucks, walgreens, grocery store on every corner just like every other town.

traffic has gotten to be a real ***** and crime is really getting bad, it just never gets reported since nobody outside of las vegas really cares about anything other than the strip.

it's a pretty diverse town so there are some really cool restaurants now. everything from greek to indian to sushi all on the same block.

if you want to live here, i suggest waiting until you have the money to buy a $300,000 home. that's what you need to be in a good area.

I have family that live in Vegas. They love it there. They try to steer clear of the stripe most of the time because of the atmosphere but do go down there to see exhibits and shows when they come into town. They love all the things that come to Vegas because of the city that they get to benefit from (races, conventions, shows, etc.)

It's like living anywhere else in the United States. We are a community just like anywhere else. We have schools, churches and libraries. We have crime, hookers and drugs on our streets. We have good neighborhoods and bad ones. The only difference I can think of is that gambling is much more accessible that other places. But if you're a gambler, no matter where you live, you will gamble. Here it's just much more convenient.

You will boring if you don't like gamble or show( not cheap)

Summer is too hot, winter is pretty cold because it is in desert, no good schools, bad for kids or a family.

Good thing is easy to get a job, cheaper than california, but not very cheap to live in.

Its... interesting. It IS different than other places though, if only due to the sheer volume of tourists coming in.
