Heather has the right idea ... sometimes those pesky HP comps are a little touchy ... specially if you've had a recent storm... just unplug everything from the back of the tower ... then plug it all back in ...sounds too simple ... but what have you got to lose?

Check the wall outlet for electricity.
Check that the wire is in the pc fully.
Look to see if any lights on the pc glow. If not, it could be a bad power supply.
If there are lights on the pc but no noises, then it could be a bad hard drive.
If there are lights and noises on the pc but no picture, it could be the monitor (check the cords)

when you hit the power button it doesnt do anything? do you hear any noises when you hit the power button? does it turn on for a second and then shut off?

you probably will have to take it to a computer shop, but I will try to help you figure out what it is exactly so they wont rip you off at all.

If nothing comes on, you must not be getting power to it. Make sure your cords are plugged in tightly. If using a surge protector make sure it is on and working. Also make sure your home circuit breaker for that plug is not tripped. If you have fuses check to see if there is one blown.
