Hi i bought two male bettas (Walker and Texas Ranger) almost a year ago from my lfs (don't worry they're in separate tanks) and one of them (Texas Ranger) is acting very listless lately. Actually about a week ago i came back from a weekend away and Texas had a fungus all over his tail. So I treated that and just did my 25% water change yesterday as per the instructions on the broad spectrum fungus meds. His tail looks awesome but his spirit has died. he's either perched on a suction cup at the top of the tank so he doesn't have to move far to get a breath of air, or he's shoved himself under a piece of driftwood at the bottom of the tank. He still is interested in eating but he's very slow and the danios that share the 33 g tank with him usually beat him out. anyone had this happen before? I put him in a small vase about 1/2hr ago to give him a break from the currents and to give him a chance to eat on his own. My other betta is still healthy as ever. All water levels are fine.

* My Betta fish generally have been living for 3-4 years after I bring them home! Old Charlie has been here for 5 years! (He was a gift from my Old Boss*)
Texas Ranger may be at the end of his life cycle!

33 gallons tank is probably too big for your bettas also the current might be too strong for texas ranger. bettas,in their natural habitat, live in still water. they don't need deep water, 2 inches deep of water is plenty for them. Tex needs a break from this big big tank. perhaps age is catching up to him. bettas' life expectancy is about 2-3 yrs, although a 7 yrs old betta has been reported

Bettas are relatively tropical fish. They stay in water upwards of 80 tiers interior the wild. if your room temp is decrease than sixty 8 i might say that would be the subject. attempt protecting them around 70 and see if it makes any distinction. I doubt he's ill, or basically putting him in a diverse bowl don't have made a lot of a distinction. sturdy luck! i'm hoping he's high quality.

I'm not sure, but I think putting him in an isolation tank for a few days (as you have done) is a good idea. Hopefully Texas Ranger perks up after a few days by himself.

Good luck!

Possibly hes old. Stressed out? Is your current strong? bettas dont like strong currents and if it is strong, hes stressed. let him hang out in his bowl like you are doing. Possibly hes going out. Maybe he had a rough long time at the petstore...
