Actually, written as they are, they both mean +16
If they were written as part of an expression, then there would be the difference you describe.
For example in x + (-2)^4 = 0 , the expression becomes +16
But, in x - 2^4, the expression becomes -16
By convention the number in brackets is taken to its exponential power before the arithmetic signs are applied to it.
Numbers by themselves are also taken to exponential power and then the arithmetic sign is applied to it.

when it is in parenthesis it includes both the "-" and the "2". so you have:
(-2)^4 = -2 x -2 x -2 x -2 = 16 (because two negatives become a positive
when it is not in parenthesis it only includes the number raised to the power of 4 so you have
-2^4 = -1 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = -1 x 16
remember that the -2 is understood as -1 x 2 because anything times 1 is itself

not God but might help. Its math 1.0.1 but nowadays teachers just teach but not explain the reasons. if you put (-2)^4 it means that the fourth power, or any other pair number used as power, affects the whole inside the parenthesis, this means both the number and the sign. but, if you just type into the calc -2^4 the result is -16 ´cause the power is only affecting the number but not the sign. it would be the same if you type -(2)^4. the difference is basically on the (). hope it helps

okay the # in the parenthesis is the number that has the exponent.
so in (-2)^4 is -2 times-2 times-2 times -2, which u understand is +16, bcuz -2 times -2 =4 times -2 =-8 times -2 =16.
but in -2^4 it is the same as -(2^4) cuz there is no parenthesis. so that is 2 times 2 (=4) times 2(=8) times 2(=16), then multiply by negative to =-16.
total difference i hope this helps!

(-2)^4 is (-2)*(-2)*(-2)*(-2) the negatives are multiplied together to result in a positive answer.
-2^4 is negative and performed -(2*2*2*2) just remember if the negative is in the parenthesis it could be positive or negative. If there is an even number it will be positive. If there is an odd number of powers it will be negative.
If it is outside it is always negative.

as far as i know (-2)^4 and -2^4 are equal it doesnt really matter if the number is inside the bracket or not.what really matters is the power and since ur power is an even number both the answer is going to b positive 16

The second part looks like it reads -(2^4) ... that is, take two to the fourth power, and then take the negative of that result.

the (-2)^4 is multiplying -2*-2*-2*-2 which equals 16
-2^4 is multiplying 2*2*2*2 which is -16 because you don't multiply the whole thing.
What grade and class is this?

because the negative sign (-) is enclosed in the parenthesis together with the 2. that makes it (-2) x (-2) x (-2) x (-2) = +16, whereas if the negative sign isnt, it makes the equation kinda like -(2x2x2x2), making it -16

1st test: 100% 2nd test:100% 3th test: 100% 4th test: 100% 5th test: 80% Mean score=Average score so to get the average score u have to add the 5 scores together 100+100+100+100+80=480 and then to get the average, u are supposed to divide them by the no. of test in order to get the average so 480 divide by 5= 96 so ur final ans is 96% :]
