The way you wrote the problem is confusing, it could be:
(3+2)^3 - (8+2)^2 in which case you should say 'quantity'.
But taking what you wrote:
3+2^3-8+2^2
Work out the exponents (powers) first:
3+8-8+4 = 3+4 = 7

the answer is 25 you can always work inside the parenthesis first
5^3-10^2
=125-100
=25
