It's not a stupid question if you don't know! It just means to use the name of someone famous or important, unnecessarily, in the course of a conversation. Such as "I went to a party Saturday with my friend Drew Barrymore"; you can substitute any name. People name drop to impress others.

A name-dropper is someone who finds ways to insert the names of people who are perceived as important, so THEY look important in the conversation. Here's an example: "So, I was hanging out at Tao with Paris Hilton last night, and..." You know...like hanging out with Paris Hilton makes you look cooler than you would otherwise.

A name dropper is someone who mentions famous people such as celebrities by name to show off their social repartee.
The only people who can do that are people in or on the fringes of show biz or celebrityville.
It's kind of hard for a bricklayer from Peoria to do that; kind of easy for a cinematographer from Burbank.

Name dropping means to use a famous person's name in casual conversation as though you were a friend or associate of that person.
For example: "Just the other day I mentioned to Brad Pitt that it was time he thought about a new car" or that sort of thing.
It infers that you are acquainted with a celebrity or other notable person.
It is considered a vulgar and pretentious practice.

Well, Bill Clinton once asked me this question, and as I explained to him, the Dalai Lama taught me all about it while I was visiting him with Nicole Kidman and Brad Pitt. We later taught it to several novices to the idea, including Al Gore, George Bush, and Donald Trump.

Name dropping is no more than mentioning someone famous casually to impress the listener, or bolster one's own credibility.

Name dropping is when a person when speaking to someone else, will say something like, "oh, Mel Gibson is a friend of my brother". Just always using names of prominent people to better themselves, or just look good.

It's someone who talks about famous people in passing, usually to brag. Its kind of like "Hey so I was hanging out with Paula Abdul last night" or "Back when I used to work with Dick Cheney" or "John Edwards went to my college," etc. It doesn't have to be a celebrity though. It can be a really popular person at school or something like that.

When i read this question i could only think of my good friend "BILL GATES" that has made it so easy to use my computer. I often email my second cousin "MARTHA STEWART" with this same computer. Well I have to go now, I have a golf date with my fishing buddy "BILL CLINTON". And I have to get the phone "JEFF GORDON", my next door neighbor is calling.
