I am a single female living alone in a house I bought a 1 1/2 yrs. ago. I have a neighbor who has been harassing me since the day I closed on the house from removing all my trees to putting up a fence in my yard. I have what I believe to be enough proof and details revolving around this scenerio to file for harassment, however, it's very costly and time consuming and I would rather hope that such an order as a "do not contact" order would put him in a position to relinquish his aggressiveness towards me. He has had many problems in the past with other surrounding neighbors but chooses to focus on me as I believe he does not like it when I do not respond to him or his efforts to control every situation that is none of his business. Everything I have done on my property has been through the city's approval. He justifies his reaction to each update I make to my house by my lack of communication with him. What can I do here to have some peace?

You can go to your local county court -- they will either have (or be able to tell you where to find) standard forms for requesting a restraining order.

The process is a little different for non-domestic violence cases, where it is a neighbor or stranger doing the harassment or stalking -- so be sure to tell them why you want it.

Most courts also have advisers who can answer simple questions about filling out the forms.

I would call your local Police Dept. and ask if this could qualify for a restraining order. Then if he harrasses you he will go to jail. They are less than $30 where I live.
At the very least, you can have him cited for tresspassing. You can file a small claims for the trees and fence.

They have their own lawyers and counselors. This may not be absolutely down their alley, but they should be able to get you started.

Believe me, one call from a stern lawyer and this will be over.
