I have never actually used this site, and there IS an fee. www.smart401k.com allows you to enter the options in your plan and answer a short questionnaire about your goals and risk tolerance. Your options are reviewed by human investment consultants and specific recommendations are made every quarter.

No, but you can get a list of your investment choices and enter them in at most stock research sites or discount brokers. Then you can analyze them. "Financial Engines" at Fidelity is a good one.

Assuming that the choices are mutual funds or ETFs, look them up at Morningstar.com, Yahoo/Finance and Lipper.com. For basics on mutual funds, see www.mfea.com or www.about.com (search for "mutual funds").
