Hold the steering wheel tight and let the car slow down at first without any radical steering or braking actions. Move to the right shoulder if possible and get as far off the highway on the shoulder as reasonable. Never leave the car in a highway lane. Make sure to gradually steer it off the highway lanes. Don't get out of the car until you settle down and it might be safer to get out of the passenger side door. Call for help on your cell phone.

Do NOT use the brake, try to control your steering, don't jerk the wheel, after you have slowed down, then apply a little pressure on the brake, Try to keep from panicking. All easier said than done. Above all don't panic and slam on the brakes.
