We shouldn't "always" anything.
Past, present & future when appropriate.
Some people say, forget the past! It's over! The majority perceive it as a way to learn from "mistakes." Others "dwell" on pain, etc.
Balderdash. We ARE our past. The past comes to memory, (in a healthy way), to give us insight, & patterns about ourselves that if we feel we need, we can modify--why do they have to be considered bloody mistakes? Coulda woulda shoulda. Really? Does anyone truly believe that if they were even able to change one incident, their current lives would be better? Any possible clue to what the conseqences would have been? That's like pondering, "Who would I be if I weren't me"? As well as "dwelling" has no constructive purpose. The journey, if honestly perceived, has its own harmony of ups & downs. So, here we are, in the moment. This "immortality" soon to be the past. Also to be enjoyed. The future is unpredictable, at best. That's part of the adventure of it. I in no way mean we needn't have our dreams & goals, nor work toward them.
We are past & present. We will be future, & future will be past, & present past. Let's embrace them all?

Dwelling on the past is kind of gross but without it, we would have no sense of identity, no way to learn from our mistakes. in fact, in order to look to the future, one must look at the past as well. the past and the present are inevitably intertwined entities which make one dynamic and complex. I try to enjoy life for what it is now and hope for the best in the future./

It is important to ponder the past in order to rectify the future. There is a point however where you must look to the future alone as the past can be borne of misrepresentations and wrongful interpretations.
I for one, wondered for years what I had ever done to earn such poor karma when my husband died young of cancer leaving me with two young children. Many, many, years later I discovered he had an underlying condition (HIV/AIDS) to which he was too afraid to tell me presuming I had contracted it also. Obviously on discovering this I had testing and the result was negative. Now I consider my karma was in fact protecting me by his sad death.
It is all in the perception, at the time to which you are dealing with the issue. Time has a way of putting it into the perspective.

Looking to the future only gives you expectations on what will happen. Expectations don’t always come true, but sometimes they do with great pay offs. But in only looking to the future with out a plan if flawed. A plan is based on what you know, and that knowledge is based on the past. Therefore the answer is no.

Yes because the future will always come. But don't forget to live in the moment... because each moment we live is the future of our past....
If you are ONLY looking into the future- it is easy to pass by life.... which happens each day.
The past... is also what forms our future... remembering out past can help us be strong, and to not repeat the mistakes in the future.. .but dwelling too much makes us forget to live in the moment!
Complicated... but I believe it to be true----

sometimes the past will keep us from making the same mistakes in the future. So I would say, spend a little time in the past to improve your future. Now me I make the same mistakes over and over no matter what...

First of all have your own "Self-Realization". Your future is still so very clean that's where you are heading to. You can fashion it the way you like want you want to be in making your own lifes success legacy. Your past is your learning experience to eliminate those unnecessary blunders and take only those that will solidly support your goal to be achieve. If you believe that its only in the order of things that you can succeed then have the Bible as your foundation in life. Then you will become a blessing to your country, to your community and to your fellow man.

You can't change the past even though everyone wish they could, it is still good to remember the past.( I'm not sure what your situation is). But you should also look towards the future.
