Ya some actors have the surname like manhotra,chopra...
But not all,
They change their name when they make their entry in bollywood to become succesful.
For example:The real name of Akshay Kumar is Vijay Bhatia.
Would u like the real name of Akshay Kumar?
Many heroes have been passed which have changed their name & surname.
So the probability of getting this surnames is more.

I see what you mean. But these days, they are trying to make sure that characters have different names, both first names and surnames. I mean, for example, SRK used to always be Rahul and Salman Khan was always Prem. (Partner being an exception).

*just for the phonetics sake, i suppose !!!!
These names are very popular & common in the N.Indian society and most of them have made good progress in life !!!!!
Perhaps the older directors and producers
who migrated from erstwhile Pak, were in awe of such people and used their names in the films done by them !!!
The films did well at the box office and perhaps since then, the names stuck on !!!!!
