I heard St Johns Worts can help with mild depression but medication can only help with the symptoms of depression but not the cause. You should talk to a therapist who can help you deal with the cause and find out why you are feeling depressed and axious.
I have anxiety and depression and have been trying an alternative therapy called Emotional Freedom Technique and it has really worked for me and helped me a lot. Since using it I have been feeling a lot better. It's very good at getting rid of all kinds of negative emotions and dealing with all kinds of issues quickly. It does sound bizarre but does work. Might be something that can help you.

For anxiety i have tried various herbs. Valerian and Passionflower herbal tablets do seem to relax you. I think there is one called Kalms...which does make you feel calmer.
For depression, St. John's Wort is supposed to be good, but only for cases of mild to moderate depression. I have never tried it but know someone who has felt better for taking it.
Have you tried a chinese herbalist? They can mix herbs specially to suit you.
Good luck x

Saint John's Wort, Gingsing, Mulit-B vitamins and minerals, Kava Kava. If you use St. John's Wort, be aware that you must be careful with the doseages and take no longer than two months at a time.

St Johns Wort or Valerian. I've tried both and found none worked. I suppose it depends on how bad the depression is xx

as of January 2007, Malaysia is moving to make kratom more illegal rather than less, and plans to reclassify it under the dangerous drugs law. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has become aware of kratom in recent months, and has added it to their list of "Drugs and Chemicals of Concern

Sorry to have to say this, but I think you're wasting your time trying to find a herbal solution to your difficulties. Even if you were to try something, it needs to be taken on a regular basis, not as needed. Remember herbs have not been tested either for safety or efficacy , and are only suitable for the mildest of problems.

Make a tea with:
1 teaspoon catnip
1 teaspoon valerian
1 teaspoon chamomile
1 teaspoon St. John's Wart--unless you take seizure meds.
Place in a ziplock bag and shake.
Take one teaspoon of the mix and place it into a tea strainer.
Add boiling water and let it steep for 15 min. remove the strainer, add honey to taste and drink 2 to 3 times a day.
