"The Boss" announced that if his Yankees did not win their Division Series against Cleveland, then Joe Torre would be fired. But it hasn't happened. Was George's threat merely a bluff??

No he was serious, but when Mo,and Posada, and Pettitte, said they may leave if Torre goes, gave him something to think about,Hell even some boston players praised the body of work Joe has done! And alot of New Yorkers sounded off about it!,but we'll find out this week, they had the meeting friday,And this week will tell all!

No, of course not! If he does, then why did Roger Clemens come to the Yankees! Then who would manage the Yankees. As of now, the pitching has been brilliant but the Yankees aren't hitting. The person that should be fired is Kevin Long, the hitting coach(who was last year for Triple-A). Even though he was praised for A-Rod's hot April, every Yankee except Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and Hideki Matsui is in a huge slump. Johnny Damon .256 2 HR 13 RBI Bobby Abreu .236 2 HR 21 RBI Robbie Cano .234 1 HR 16 RBI A-Rod (this month) .259 and the list goes on............. Right now, the Yankees need a right-handed bat because they are filled with lefties. So as you can see, the hitting is the Yankee's problem right now. Kevin Long has to GO!

Steinbrenner NEVER said "if his Yankees did not win their Division Series against Cleveland, then Joe Torre would be fired". What he did say is they PROBABLY will not renew his contract, which is a big difference.

I don't think he was bluffing. He called last years ending a "sad failure" and i think he really wanted to fire him after last year. Remember Steinbrenner has by far the highest payroll in baseball and expects to go deeper into the play offs. I'm sure he'd like to fire him but the players don't, Rivera has stated if torre goes he could possible go (remember his contract is expired) and Steinbrenner is not playing as dominate a role in day 2 day ops as he once was (see espn.com article) he's 2 sons are having some say-so now.

I do think Torre is a good manager and if anyone needs to be shown the door its Cashman.

When that was said, the Boss was probably trying to light a fire under some players a**. If he really meat it, than Torre would be gone by now. Heard some people discuss how Torre had to make some moves on pitchers to use, and he did not agree with these decisions so he may not want to come back.

I think that he was bluffing because if you thik about it Joe torre is the best manager anyone can get and if he got another manager the yankees would not be able to stay and have the chemistry in which they have now

Will never know! Steinbrenner announced today that he is giving over control of the ball club to his sons.

He has been known to change his mind on occasion, and also his son, Hank Steinbrenner, might be the decision maker now.

I think he was for real on this. But I think maybe Selig asked him to wait till after the World Series so not to detract from the games
