I need to find the area of the shaded triangles in stage in for the Sierpinski triangle. I know the formula for the smallest number of white triangles in each stage (n) is 3^(n-1) but that's only the first half of the problem. Please help!

looks like the sum (from k=0 to infinity) of 3^k where k is the iteration 0th iteration: 1 1st: 1+3^1 = 1+3 2nd: 1+3+3² = 1+3+9 : : nth: 1+3+9+27+...+3^n
