You would absolutely love the Ninja 250
It is very easy to ride and sexy hot looking.
You can get them used at craigslist.com
Here is how you look. Go to that web site then click
the State you are in.
Then click the City near you
Then click Motorcycles and it shows you the bikes. Type in ninja 250
Also see the site below to go on a virtual ride on a 250
Here are some reasons why the 250 is awesome.
1. It is fast up to 70-100 mph yet excellent at gas
It's the bike that has best gas mileage
2. You don't have to get dirty to check the oil! It has a glass window on the side you look through to check it. Rather than having to put the dip stick in. See your nails wont break he he :-)
3. It has a Patented Positive Neutral finder!
When you are on a bike and have to go in neutral some bikes are hard to find the N You have to kinda lightly tap to N but if you tap too much it hits first or second and its dumb.
But the Ninja has a positive finder so what happens is when you get to the light and stop at the stop light. You simply tap your toe UP and that puts it into neutral.
4. When I went to my MSF motorcycle course the trainer there had a hot pink one and it looked awesome. They have some neat colors.
5. Most bikes in that price range are only Air cooled sorta like the old vw bugs where the air just cools it off but on hot days it is not good. But this ninja is Liquid cooled! It even has a mini radiator and you can hear the fan going its pretty cool. Mine never gets hot.
6. The most important part is safety. The ninja has a very safe front end, that is when you are taking off from a stop you can't flip your wrist too much and fly off which can and does happen with faster bikes. Once you have the hang of it you will want more power such as 600 cc but those bikes are more expensive and you don't want to learn on an expensive bike.
7. Handling
The ninja is known for its awesome handling and gets tons of respect out on the road. You'll see folks waving to ya on r1 yahmahas (The best bike in the world I'd say but bookooo fast) and cbr's and gxrs etc..
You can even rent the bike at a motorcycle rental place and they are cheap to rent. You'll see what I mean when you ride it. Its fun.
Read the entire link below here see it? Look at the photos and picture yourself on the bike. Welcome to the ninja club!

I'm 5'2" and I started out on a Honda Rebel 250 (374 lbs), then moved onto a Honda Shadow VLX600 (478 lbs) and now I ride two bikes a Honda Shadow Ace 750 (546 lbs) and a BMW F650GS. Start small & light and work your way up. The cruiser style bikes are generally short rider friendly and at your height you can flat foot when you stop. I haven't had much luck with sport bikes especially because I'm not willing to rely on tip-toes for safety. Lots of riders can only reach on tip-toes but that can get you in really big trouble on a hill, if there is a dip in the road, not being able to back your bike out of parking spots etc.... Here's a very useful website for you which lists all the bikes by make, model and year which are suitable for short riders. http://www.vtwinmama.com/short_riders_2004.htm

Having taught a few riders, I have found that the best thing to do is find a riding school that will teach you the proper way to ride and will be able to help you in your search for the right bike. You have many choices out there, from the make and model to the over all size of the bike. I have had several people in the past get a bike that is to big for them even though the bike is smaller in CC's. Check for height, weight, and wheel base. The bikes that I have used in the past are Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and BMW's. I tend to try new riders out on at least 3 different bikes. The best are standard street bikes usually about 250 cc's to 500 cc's. I Hope this will help you in your preparation in finding a ride that is fit for you.

All of the bikes recommended here ^^^^^^^^^ are good starter bikes. Before you start though go to several dealerships where they will let you sit on a wide variety of bikes. Given your size start with something small. You'll enjoy this a lot more if you aren't terrified of your ride. Secondly buy used! Most people won't tell you this but as a newbie you're almost guaranteed to drop it at some point. Which leads to my final things..... always wear the appropriate gear. Helmet, gloves, a jacket made especially for motorcycling, and at least heavy denim for pants. Even if your the best rider out there 90% of the road is shared with people in cages not looking for bikes. Lastly help yourself out and enroll in a motorcycle safety coarse. You can learn on the road....but it's cheaper and safer this way. Have fun shopping and welcome to the club.:)

Motorcycle seats are generally at around 32". Being that you are inseam challenged, you have fewer choices of motorcycles. Many cruiser style motorcycle have lower seat heights and there are more choices in lighter weight machines. Harley Sportster 883, Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha all have cruiser style motorcycles.
Other styles of motorcycles get more scarce. Look at the Kawasaki Ninja 250 and 500, the Buell Blast, Many Ducatis can be lowered.
Good luck.

honda rebel would be an excellent choice for a first bike. either that or a scooter. I started out with a125cc scooter, and it was great.
if you already have some riding experience, you might want to start with something like a honda shadow 600. that's a great beginner bike for a lot of reasons, but will be advanced enough for you if you already have biking experience (like a scooter.)

The biggest factors will be height and weight. Something around 500-600cc should have enough power. Other than that look for something with a relatively low seat. (lowrider)
Go sit on some and see how they feel once the kickstand is up. That will be your best indicator.

the kawasaki eliminator 125 is another option
the honda nighthawk and rebel 250s are good starter bikes
yamaha virago 250
suzuki gz 250
all these are small street bikes and weigh around 300 lbs--weight is key. the rebel and eliminator would be the least expensive. the virago probably looks the coolest ;)

I recommend the Honda Rebel for a starter bike. It is easy to ride and light enough to pick up if you drop it. Maybe some one you know has a small dirt bike they can teach you on.Good luck and be careful.
