I saw a conservative actually claim health-care is a "handout" in another question about health-care. It's astonishing- astonishing I tell you! - how quickly conservatives forgot the principles in our own Declaration of Independence!

Don't you get it? It can't be based on your ability to pay. Health-care is not optional. You can't postpone your heart disease until you've saved up for it. There is no ethical market solution for health-care. It is a right, not a "handout"! Conservatives have lost their sense of humanity.

All they talk about are the poor, poor and their 'free ride.' The middleclass is suffering just to make ends meet. We don't get a handout. Where is my handout. Healthcare costs are assonine and so are the monthly premiums. Heaven forbid you don't have 100% coverage and you end up in the hospital paralyzed from a car wreck. Hmmm...wonder how much all of the doctor's bills would be. My father just had a heartattack and was in the hospital for 2 1/2 days. His bill was $37,000!

Health care, you pay for it. Getting it for free is a hand out.
We are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. So, why spend a ton of money and hard work to become a health care professional and not get paid well for it? Is that pursuing happiness?
The Declaration of Independence meant just that, Independance meaning, you take care of yourself and are NOT dependant on others. If you want a King to take care of you, you are in the wrong country.

Do you think the Government should be in charge of Health Insurance? I do not. The Hospital should budget for people that need to pay over time or cannot afford to pay at all, If the Government can pick up the tab all well and good.

Perhaps I should answer a question with a question -- why do you consider health care to be "life"?
The Declaration of Independence said that "the pursuit of happiness" was a right -- not happiness itself. Our founders didn't declare that it was the government's responsibility to make everyone happy. They merely stated that people should be free to pursue their own happiness.
Health care in and of itself is not "life," any more than employment, housing or food is "life." To guarantee a job, a house or food for everyone who wants it, without obligation, is, indeed, a government handout. For the government to give health care to able bodied people who are able to secure it for themselves will expand the economy and empower the government far beyond what our founders ever envisioned.
Remember also one of the major reasons the Revolutionary War was waged -- excessive taxation by England. Imagine what our taxes would need to be to guarantee health care for 300 million Americans. It boggles the mind, and it's hard to imagine that men like Jefferson, Adams and Franklin would think that was a responsible use of governmental power.

Yup, it's very clear that no one has the right to take away your ability to advance on your own. You have the right to pursue happiness!
Why should you be forced to pay for my cold medication?
If I came to your door with a cop, and he forced you to write a check to the hospital for my care, how would you feel? That's fair; right? You owe me!
But, if the reverse happenned, I'd rather be jailed. You would get a penny from me; cause I read the same document differently.
Actually, I'd help a fellow human being if there were a true need, but it's not a God given right. You're confusing this with Robin Hood.

I do not understand your line of reasoning. Libs are the first ones to buck authority yet expect authority to provide them with everything. Tax incentives to people who can not afford health insurance would be a good place to start so they can make their own choices and we retain a free market healthcare system that promotes competition so we all win.
While we are at it I would like the freedom to invest my SS money as I see fit.

and it to me is totally amazing how many liberals cant read...read it again...it says PURSUIT...in other words im not guarantteing anyone elses free ride, its the product of my own labor i want and not to pay for some moron making more than i am. life is not a handout, i work hard for it, but i see nothing wrong illegal or immoral about giving me more of what i legitimately earn.
