I think I'll ask him not to say I love you until he means that hes in love with me...what u guys think? it bothers me so much...im not really a strong believer of stuff like: the 'in love' feeling will come with time...

isn't "mate" a couple of buddies on a boat?

isn't it 'funny' how men mean what they say, they just don't say what they mean?
maybe he needs to look those two words up in the dictionary...you are NOT his spouse, as he is your 'bf' and you are his 'mate'
if you were his spouse, you would be married to him, that is what spouse means
mate? would that have some type of prefix like room or soul?
i think that he loves what he has with you, but, would drop you in a heart beat if the 'right' one came along...otherwise, you would be a true spouse (or on your way to being one) and he would not hesitate when asked if he is 'in love' with you.
a mate is something that matches another (your definitions of each other don't even come close to that)

In Australia, don't ever underestimate the use of the word mate.
It is usually used to explain the relationship between 2 men: "Even though he started it, I had to back him up in the fight, he's my mate." The word 'mate' means blind loyalty, an unbreakable bond between two people who view the world the same way.
The hesitation would bother me more than the word 'mate'. He certainly sees you as one of his closest friends, but he needs to work on whether he really sees you as his life partner.

Girls, Girls , Girls... we males have are separate language when it comes to emotions, please don't go slagging us off because we don't say the 'L' word! Some guys use the 'L' word just to get laid, others use it all the time, but if you are looking for your man to say it you are probably best to ask him why he can't/won't say it. Ensure none of his mates are around to hear his answer and definitely NEVER make him say it in public or its curtains for your relationship.
He sounds like a nice caring man and it also sounds like he does love you! Good Luck!

Here in Australia " mate " means a really good friend so he might only love you as a friend ......the hesitation was not good to me.

He hesitates and gives no straight answer because he can't figure out your language. That love / in love thing is chick language. Some guys don't get it.

Sounds like he really has feelings for you and wants to be with you, it just may not be that "in love" feeling yet.
Don't ask him any more, wait for him to tell you.
That will take the pressure off, then just wait to see what happens.
You can love someone without being "in love" with them. I think that "in love" feeling comes after some time.
Just be happy with the time that he does want to be with you, and enjoy being with one another, then wait and see what happens.
Good luck ;)

One of my best friends tells me he loves me and I tell him I love him. We have a different kind of love, it is a brotherly kind of love and not a "in love" kind of love. Although both of us would take a bullet for each other since we care so much
for each other.
