It won't be George's call in the near future, as his sons - Hank and Hal - will soon be taking over operations of the franchise. Hank has been the spokesman for some time and will probably be the one who will be the face of the franchise for years to come.
And I still wonder about the sports story about Torre last week where George was quoted extensively. He has been in declining health and in years past would have held a major press conference at the stadium with the national/NY media, not talk to one reporter over the phone.

It's unlikely to happen - Martin usually got fired as a result of being a drunk, which Torre is not. Steinbrenner always kept Martin inside the Yankees organization in some capacity, which would not be possible with Torre.

George isn't able to mess with Joe like he did Billy ,There is more money amongst the teams out there.That means Joe can be quite comfortable being some where else, and he won't have to look back,let alone go back.

He can do whatever he wants, he owns the team, but Joe Torre wouldn't play that game, he has too much respect for himself.

one thing a lot of people don't get is Torre is a FREE AGENT manager but if they don't resign him i don't see him getting rehire.
