I usually run and hide in some dark hole, cowering from my embarrassment.
Although, sometime I just pass out.

I am a compliment hog. Yes, flattery does go a long way and I both give and receive compliments daily.
The best way to know how to receive compliments is to start giving them (honest, not made up ones). In this way, you can become more comfortable with the art (yes, it's an art); and you will be able to gauge people's reactions, therefore helping with your reaction when you receive one.
Good luck.

Well I'm extremely shy so I generally just shrug and shyly say thanks or thank you. That may come off as rude but I'm to shy to really care. My father used to critisize me a lot about the way I react to compliments. Oh and I'll compliment you now. Nice question.

I react rather strange...
I don't have "Low Self Esteem" but I still try to negate the compliment when given.
I always go "Nahhh... It's nothing..." or "Nahhh... It wasn't that hard..."
I don't know why I do that...
I guess that I feel that no matter how good I am at something ANYONE can be that good if they only tried... And I am ALWAYS feening for knowledge...

I just sort of pause and then continue with whatever I was doing (e.g. talking). I can never tell whether it's a compliment that requires a thank you or one that just needs a smile! So I just tend to ignore the person and pretend I didn't hear, or sort of half smile. I don't take compliments all that well. Insults, on the other hand... ; )

I go a bit shy in a way and say thank you or a hug on who is giving the compliment.
