Would it save the American people more money in the long run? Would it be easier for postal workers, particularly mail carriers, to lead normal lives by not having to work on Saturday?

Eventually places like FedEx and UPS will offer mail delivery service at cheaper rates than the USPS.

At this point the government should simply abolish the service as the private market will be able to deliver it at
a cheaper price (and probably a better product).

As far as the "leading normal lives" comment. I know of many people that work odd hours, overtime, weekends, etc. This is no longer a strange thing. On top of that, I simply do not care much about government employees having to work on weekends. As taxpayers we should simple expect a good, efficient product out of our public workers at a reasonable cost to us and without frivalous items.

I do not feel sorry for anyone that takes a job that requires night or weekend hours. People are free to work where they want and are not forced to do anything. I know, it sounds harsh, but it is true and everyone has to make choices in life.

What is so particular with working over the weekend for postal workers ! All other services operate 24/7 and I am sure the workers in those industries all live normal lives! If they did not work we would have no 'power' services to start with - which would just about close down everything, not least of all computer for business and fun. Just carry on postal workers and enjoy your other days off!

I don't care in the least. I seldom get anything but junk mail, and that's just a waste of money and trees. If I ship a package, there's no way I'm sending it via USPS; they are slow and unreliable, and things are lost or damaged on a regular basis. As far as I'm concerned, we can do away with the Post Office completely. I'll stick with UPS or Fedex and e-mail. The postal workers and their union wanted more and more money for doing less and less, and thought they'd be indispensible; they priced themselves out of jobs, and I say good riddance to bad rubbish.

Should the military, especially the sailors on board ship, be required to work no more than 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week? And lead normal lives?

The USPS would fight that tooth and nail.

Job security and all.

Personally, I'd be fine with delivery twice a week. No need to come to my house 6 days a week to drop off the junk mail.
