The main thing, is, I don't acknowledge time as going by, and it seems to always be just about too late before I start something.

In addition to that, I have trouble turning off the television, computer, and the games that I have when I need to start my homework. Sometimes, I just don't even think about starting an assignment until it is almost too late, and watch television instead.

Also, I have been told that I may also be going through a long term depression because of my mother's death like 5 years ago by a psychologist.

The thing is, I am trying to change before it gets to be bad and my grades start plummeting.

Oh yea, forgot to mention, I might also have something like ADHD or ADD or something like that, although this is completely unclear at the moment. My psychologist pointed that out as a possibility.

I have a serious problem with procrastination. I watch too much TV just like you and wait until the last min.

I found it helpful to not do homework at home at all. I do it in the library or on sunny days in the park. There are too many distractions at home.

When I get the assignment I go straight to the library to start. Once I get started Im on a roll.

I go straight to the library because I know Im going to BS around and be rushing at the end. If I go to the library first, at least I got all of my research and notes out of the way and I can put something decent together at the last min. Which is still bad but it's better than not opening the book until the day the assignment is due.

Then I took some advice from a shoe company "JUST DO IT" I dont know why but when I say that to my self it really seems to help.

Im sorry about your mom, continue seeking professional help. Dont give up you can make it.

God Bless

Fellow Procrastinator,
I have had similar issues & this is what helped me:

1. Create a TO DO LIST.. Silly I know. But after each item is complete, you can cross it off & then reward yourself... say For every hour of work... do a reward.. anything you want: let yourself listen to your favorite song (1 time- if more work is to be done), a snack, or a 1/2 of tv/ game time.
It seems mondane I know but if you see what needs to be done & can visually cross off list as you go it gives you self satisfaction.

2. Use a TIMER. Ok as ridiculous as it sounds get a kitchen timer & put it where you are working.. set it.. for your goal. ie. 15 mins. of homework.... 1 hour of research... whatever the case is. This also helps keep you from not constantly looking at time... cause that is just as time consuming as other distractions. USE same timer on your reward time so you don't go overboard with 1 hour of work and 2 hours of tv/game time.

3. Stay FOCUSED.. very hard if you have AADD but but notes on PC & on the TV- " HAVE you completed that assignment" or "Is it reward time" or something to remind you that work comes first. Ensure Family/ Friends / roomates know your plan & they can help by keeping you on track as well.

4. SET Phone rules.... put on silent or vibrate during your worktime so that you will have no disractions...
ie. Let Family/ Friends know that 5 - 6 is your quiet study time.. etc..

Hope this helps it did for me... more work gets done these days... :)

Start thinking that there might not be tomorrow or your problems will just keep filing if you won't get an action now

remove the tv from your bedroom and unplug it from the wall. keep your computer turned off unless its for homework. when you wake up on the weekends, do your homework first, then you have the whole day free and wont worry about it.

sorry about your mother

good luck!
