A woman in my town who murdered her sister and put her in a wheelchair and dumped her in a field about 5 miles away, she was only caught as it was a snowy night and they just traced the tracks back to the house.

This isn't really a general answer, but a fun tidbit: most criminals actually have a lower IQ than the rest of the public, at least the ones in jail (many have downright mental retardation).
Some say that this is only because they were stupid enough to get caught, and that there are plenty of high-IQ criminals out there; however, low IQ has consistently been linked with aggressive behavior.

That one is a good one but, don't forget about the bank robber that tried robbing a bank after walking past a cop. That idiot gave the word stupid a new meaning!!

Sandy Berger. He stole documents from the National Archives that incriminated the Clintons after 9/11. For some reason though, Hillary is using him as an adviser for her presidential campaign.

Frank Melton, the current mayor of Jackson, Mississippi, who decided to personally destroy what he thought was a drug dealer's home.
Oops.
It was a rental property, the drug dealer was long gone, and a poor man woke up to having his wall caved in by "TV Star and Cop" Frank.
Case pending.

Possibly so - I worked on a job once where a woman paid her court fine with a stolen cheque. Although bearing in mind it was a mans cheque book the court clerk might just be stupider.
