My husband and I already own a very good gas efficient car. However, if that day ever happened (and it WILL one day), I hope that this will really push people to start walking more and also rely on public transportation. I also think that I would be more careful on not being so wasteful.

The entire economy and the culture of all of North America,,,and most of the world would be radically changed by this occurrence ,,,even if it happened over a long period of time. So my answer is that every ones lives would change. As to the HOW of its changing,,,,I can only say that it would change in MANY ways! The first and most obvious change would be in transportation. The second most obvious change would be in agriculture.Petroleum is at this moment the absolute LIFE'S BLOOD of the American economy and the American culture.Society as we now know it will be very different once this actually happens,,,,and you are young enough that you will LIVE long enough to SEE it happen with your own eyes. I am 62 now ,,,so I will most likely not live long enough to see this terror. If you wish to know the future then you need only study the past because history is cyclical and repetitious.

I'd be walking to work every day. But I don't live that far away. My husband, we'll his car would be the only one we'd use since it gets better gas mileage!

I would smell bad, my clothes would be dirty, my hair would be greasy, and I'd be using food stamps to buy groceries. I'd be in the best shape of my life, otherwise, because of all the walking, bike riding, and being smart about the foods I decide to eat.
