Scientific notation is just a way to make a very large number or a very small number easier to handle. This is done by writing the number with only one integer on the left side of the decimal point and the indicating the numbers eliminated by x10^--

1. 7,930,000,000 is really 7,930,000,000.0
we move the decimal point to the left, which tells us the original number was greater than 1. We count the number of places we have to move it to the left to leave only one integer to the left of the decimal. So, it becomes 7.93X10^9.

2. 0.00000748
we move the decimal point to the right, which tells us the original number was less than 1. Again, we count the number of places this time to the right we are moving the decimal point to leave only one integer to the left of the decimal point. Thus, 7.48x10^-6.
Hope this helps.

To find scientific notation of a number you must move the decimal until you get a number that is less than 10 and greater or equal to 1. For example if we used the number 2,560,000,000 you would move the decimal over 9 times until you got the number 2.56. The next step is to take the number 10 and give it an exponent. You use the number of times you moved the decimal as your exponent. So in the example before you would use 9 as the exponent making 10^9 . You then show 2,560,000,000 in scientific notation is 2.56 mutiplied by 10^9 ( 2.56 * 10^9 ). But if you were working with a decimal you would make the exponent negative. For exmple if you had the number .000034 then the scientific equationg would equal 3.4 * 10^-5. The point of scientific notation is so you can simplify a long number (usually used in science).
I hope this helps :).

1. 7.93x10^9
2. 7.48x10^-6

remember, your first number must be between 1 and 10, for example, 7.93, not 79.3 or anything
and then just count the number of zeros to the end.
if you're going to the left, then it's negative, such as -6
