It sounds like you have been infected with some kind of malware. Unfortunately, if you find one infection, it is highly likely you have another one.
Since NONE of the anti-spyware/anti-adware programs are 100% accurate in finding and removing spyware, you need at least two programs which you will run one after the other, not at the same time.
There are two excellent free ones:
Spybot, Search and Destroy
and
Ad-Aware
Both are available FREE from www.download.com
You will need to download, install, update and run them, one at a time. Be careful with the NAME of these programs - there are "look-alikes" with very similar names, that are in fact spyware themselves!
After this current infection is cleared up, be sure to run both of the above programs at least once a week if you are on the internet frequently and/or like to download music or files.
Before you run these, clean up (delete) your cookies, temp files and temporary internet files. I prefer to use Ccleaner (available at www.filehippo.com) to do this, rather than the built-in DISK CLEANUP. If you want to use Disk Cleanup, you can find it if you:
- Double-Click on My Computer to open it up
- RIGHT-click on your C: drive
- Choose PROPERTIES and then click on the DISK CLEANUP button
- When done, reboot your computer.
Delete these files daily or run Ccleaner every day right before you shut your computer down.
You should also have a good anti-virus program and a firewall to help protect your computer. AVG FREE is an excellent anti-virus program, which can be downloaded from www.download.com. Zone Alarm makes a totally free version (watch you don't download the 30-day free trial of the paid version). You can download this from the manufacturer at www.zonelabs.com
HTH : )
Good luck!

Don't listen to any of the previous answers! Except C-Bug. (Sorry, I seem to have stepped on that post.)
There are free firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware products availble. To check to see if these infections are real, use these types of programs in this order: The order of use is important, as bad stuff can modify itself to hide deeper in your system if their rootkit components are not exposed first.
1) anti-rootkit (I like AVG free anti-rootkit)
2)anti-spyware. Use two at least. (I like SUPER Anti-Spyware and Spybot Search and Destroy)
3) anti-virus. Do a Deep Scan. AVG has a pretty good free anti-virus program.
4) If all else fails, download and run HiJack This (Merjin) and post the Log to one of the HiJack This forums.
Then download Zone Alarm Firewall Free Edition. Always use in Active Mode one and only one firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware program. Use the other security programs for scans, once a week. And update all security programs and definitions at least once a week. Consider also the new Zone Labs free Secure Browser, called Force Field.
It is best to clean up an infected system, so that you can see what you may have done to get infected in the first place. Almost all infections can be cleaned up. After cleanup, use CCleaner to clear out any remaining residues from your Registry and to clean up a lot of other "Windows Sludge". Your system should show improvements. But CCleaner may have to be run several times to fully clean up a badly "sludged" system. Back up your Registry the first time you run CCleaner, just in case.

You are pretty much screwed. Make backups first. Then LOOK for the RESTORE disk that came with your computer. If it isn't scratched and/or dirty, it might work out OK.
But regular maintenance is how you can prevent infections. I mean REGULAR. If you are scanning your computer BECAUSE of an infection, then it's too late. Consider a regular maintenance schedule. But try AVG anti-virus, the FREE download from http://www.download.com Then try others. You can SEARCH at Download.com for "anti-virus" then pick FREE from the license type field.
Follow these steps to do computer maintenance.
- run Disk Cleanup - from the System Tools section of Accessories
- Open My Computer, then Right Click on your C drive and pick PROPERTIES. Pick the Tools section and click on CHECK NOW. Check both tests, and YES, let it run after you restart. You see, CHECK DISK will ensure that your hard drive is working completely. This test might take an hour or so.
- run DEFRAG - from the System Tools section of Accessories.
Keep your anti-virus solution up to date, and run a full scan weekly.
Keep your anti-spyware solution up to date, and run a full scan every few days. I recommend the free SpyBot Search & Destroy that you can get from http://www.download.com
Do all of this regularly, and your computer will run better.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Thats because the program you use to scan is really the cause of the problem, its a common scam they try to scare you with infections found.
Try downloading the following :
http://www.avast.com (free home version), install and set to scan when restart
Download and run SpybotSD
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
Try the above first should give you a head start
To the person who gives the advice to every problem 'REFORMAT THE HARD DRIVE'
If you do this every day in your job, I have no idea who you work for, even if its good advice, you failed to mention to users that by doing so, all their work/documents will get wipe out.

if you have lots of infections.... first you have to eliminate the viruses... the best way to eliminate them .... is NOT to install antivirus in your computer (because some viruses become stealth after installation...)
go to your friends computer.... (be sure its not infected.... ) install an antivirus on that computer.... plug in your hardrive... (be sure its off)
dont access your hardrive...... scan all the drives using antivirus.....
after the virus has been removed.... go back to your computer plug your hardrive.... install an antispyware..... and scan (be sure its updated.... ok)
you can download free antivirus here....
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/
you can download free antispyware here
http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022-10122137.html
be sure its updated before you use it.....
if something comes worst... then you have to format your computer.... and reinstall.....
